1959 Cadillac Cyclone Concept

Unlike the Firebirds, the Cadillac Cyclone was powered by a conventional internal combustion engine, but being a tweaked version of the marque's V8 engine, it still offered stellar performance. From the nose cones to the tail lights the design was clearly inspired by the latest aeroplane design. The nose cones were equipped with radar, which served as a crash avoidance system. Right behind the cones the next 'oddity' can be found; the exhaust system, which exits in front of the front wheels. The lights were not conventional either, and could be completely hidden above the grill.

The interior was relatively standard, but it was covered by a one-piece plastic canopy. Currently this is replaced by a regular wind screen. To get in and out of the car, the Cadillac engineers developed the first ever sliding doors. Today these are very commonly used on minivans. Another interesting feature of the doors was a small panel in each one, which could be opened to pay for toll ways. The rear end is dominated by two large tail lights, which resembled jet exhausts. The design is rounded off by two relatively small wings, which were one of the few jet design cues that made it onto production cars.

HP iPhone Classic Calculators

HP announced a series of new iPhone apps, this time in the form of the classic calculator. It’s interesting in that over time, technology becomes obsolete and is replaced by the latest hi-tech gadgets. However, given enough time, the nostalgia factor kicks in and people remember the old devices they once had.
It’s because of this that you see how popular old rom games have become as people try and capture a bit of their youth. The Classic Calculator applications designed by HP are just another way to take a trip down memory lane. These digital calculators are available in 3 models, the HP 12c, HP 12c Platinum and the HP 15c.
All three calculators use the original ROM software found in the hardware models. The HP 12 and the HP 12c come with business focused functions and formulas while the HP 15c includes scientific algorithms and complex formula support.
Pricing for the calculator software has been set at $15, $20 and $30 for the HP 12c, HP 12c Platinum and the HP 15c respectively. Both the HP 12c and HP 15c will be available in the coming days while the HP 12c Platinum will be released in the August time frame.

Toshiba Escargot VC-Z100L Vacuum Cleaner

Vacuum cleaners are usually pretty boring, well it seems that Toshiba and Electrolux have teamed up to produce a stylish looking vacuum cleaner, the Toshiba Escargot VC-Z100L Vacuum Cleaner.
As the name suggests, the design of the Escargot VC-Z100L was inspired by a snail, and in at 2.1kg about 4.6lbs, it has a 50 watt high suction powered motor and is designed to be ultra portable.

I know vacuum cleaners aren’t the usual type of gadget that we feature on geeky gadgets, but this ones does look pretty cool, it looks like they will only be available in Japan for around $113.

Salk Sound HT4 giant bamboo speakers

Salk Sound’s latest speakers, look like they belong in some weird sci-fi flick. They are definitely different. They are dubbed the HT 4 to outdo the current HT 3 line. These babies weigh 155 lbs and stand about 42″ high. Supposedly they can deliver “a very accurate recreation of what you would hear in a concert hall or other live venue.”
They are made of trans-laminated bamboo, but there is a cheaper Medium Density Fiberboard version in the works too. They’ll cost you about $18,000 for the 12″ woofer-equipped bamboo version, and $14,000 for the MDF version. An HT4 with “only” a 10″ woofer in bamboo will be about $12,000, and the MDF version at least $10,000.

Boombox in a Shoe

Take a look at this design concept of a CD-playing athletic shoe. (We had considered titling this post “BoomShoe” but then thought again.) It comes with everything you need to play CD’s built-in, including a compact disc player, speaker, tweeters and a small knob for volume. It even has some controls for play, stop, forward and back embedded into the side.
The design picture is pretty cool but I would bet you would have some real “skipping” problems with this one. Throw in some Flash memory and a small LCD screen and I think we would really have something.

If you would like to keep the sound low, you can plug in your headphone on the stereo mini output. The good thing is even it is small, it comes with a remote control. DVL-7TV will be available in the Japanese market with the price of USD350.

Juicer Alkaway

Imagine drinking a glass of delicious fresh juice, the kind of healthy juice you can only get by making it yourself. Introducing our new Juicer, the AlkaWay - a sister model of our Zenith for our Australian customers. Like the Zenith, it has multifunctionality that allows you to make nut butters, pasta, baby food, soups, and more, you get six machines in one!
From the same manufacturer as the Oscar and Matstone series' of juicers, this juicer is a high quality product you know you can trust.
By the way, we have some special offers if you'd like more than one juicer (or know a friend who might want one, even AFTER you've got yours!), check them out on our website at http://www.greaterblue.com/resellers.php
Why the Alkaway?
Not only is it healthier, it can save you time and money! For a start, the mechanism used is highly important.
- High speed centrifugal juicers basically shred your fruits and vegetables, and then try to suck the moisture from their remains.
- Low speed Single Gear Cold Press juicers essentially act like a mortar and pestle, squeezing your fruits and vegetables (similar to chewing!), comfortably and efficiently, giving you more juice, more nutrients and vitamins, and longer lasting freshness.
So you get a little more juice and health from single gear juicers, but how much does it count? Let us show you the numbers - oh, and if you're interested in the detailed science of it, you're welcome to check it out on our website, page coming soon!
Compared to a common centrifugal juicer, the AlkaWay produces
Over 20% more juice
Over 60% more nutrients
Juice that stays fresh up to 48 hours
In a wheatgrass juicing comparison with a competing Australian cold press juicer, the Oscar DA-900, the AlkaWay produced 30% more juice, and it even held an edge over the more expensive Kempo / Hippocrates / Greenpower!

LG’s HDTV lineup streams, has Hz, will block out the sun

LG just released a vast amount of information detailing their latest lineup of HDTVs, but most of it you can make up yourself: imagine a list of TV sizes, a descending list of model numbers, and a likewise descending list of features. The ones worth mentioning are the LH50 (below) and PS80 series, which will both have ethernet ports and the new Netcast streaming technology, allowing you to watch Netflix and YouTube among other services. We just saw them in the press conference and they look nice.
The LHX (top) is also being touted for its extreme thinness, but although it’s impressive-looking, shaving that last half-inch off the thickness isn’t that much of a huge feature. I’m glad they’ve done it, but still.
There’s also quite a lot of Hertz talk being thrown around. The LH50 does 120Hz, the LHX does 240Hz, and the PS80 (above) does a completely ridiculous 600Hz. Of course, your eyes can’t really even tell the difference after 120, but that won’t stop them!
Are you guys ready for perhaps the longest press release that’s ever been released? Prepare yourselves. And this is only the omnibus release.

Supernova Chic - Just Dandy for a Woman's night out

Together with two candy-bar models and one fliptop version, the Nokia 7610 Supernova rounds up the Supernova family. With the mirrored surfaces, curves and colour options, the Supenova series seems aimed at the female set. First, there is X-press-On back cover in a different colour, so that you can change the look of the phone. In other nod to women, the front of the phone, with its display screen dimmed, has a smoky mirrored finish that can easily double up as a makeshift mirror for a quick lipstick touch-up.One of the most interesting features of the 7610 is the theme colouriser. This application detects the colours of objects viewed through the phone's camera and goes on to create 16 different shades of the colours detected. For instance, when you point the camera at your brown desk that has a red book and black mouse pad on it, the application will pick up those hues and randomly churn out 16 shades in all those hues. You can save the 16 shades as a wallpaper or screensaver in just a couple of clicks. What is really neat is that even the backlight for the centre navigational pad changes to a matching colour as well. From a multimedia perspective, the 7610 is well-equipped. You get a 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera with dual LED flash and 8X zoom, and a music player with a dedicated hardware button. There's even a TV-out function to zip the video clips you have shot directly to the google-box. The down side ia that the TV-out cable is not supplied. The Nokia 7610 Supernova is a chic, eye-catching phone that will be just dandy for a women's night out with her girlfriends

Features Self-Sufficient Vertical Farm and Commercial

This amazing design of this London Bridge was recently presented by Chetwood Architects. In the middle of the Thames river the bridge include a towering vertical farm. The spires of the futuristic bridge exploit solar power and feature wind turbines. They also include a green organic farm along with a commercial center that uses renewable energy, solar heating, natural ventilation and is water efficient. This particular design was the winner of a design competition for a new version of London Bridge, the competition being initiated by the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects (WCCA) along with the Royal Institute for British Architects (RIBA).
Chetwood took into consideration the features of the old bridge and designed a futuristic bridge that will not only help people get to the other side of River Thames but will also serve as a place for meetings and commerce. It will sell all kinds of food including food produced by its vertical farm. It s worth mentioning that the new bridge will include two main buildings: a vertical farm and a commercial center where people will have the possibility to buy food, visit cafes and restaurants.
The bridge has a pier mounted to it, making it possible for goods to be delivered at the water level and produce to be grown using hydroponics. There are two produce markets located on either sides of the bridge: one is a wholesale market, while the other one is a public organic market.
The vertical farm on the bridge plays the role of a cooling tower, generating cool air at the bridge level and eliminating hot air through the top. The vertical axis wind turbine, located at the top of the tower, is powered by the natural ventilation. The tower will also collect rainwater that will support the hydroponic farm along with the restrooms. Greywater is going to be treated and recycled.

Inventions that Will Be Used in Everyday Life by 2039

Recently the New Scientist magazine predicted that by 2039 the X-Ray vision and invisibility cloak could be used in everyday life. The magazine listed a number of latest scientific and technological inventions that in the near future could be used by people.
Researches that are currently performed on ultrasound will make the X-Ray vision in humans possible, giving the possibility to virtually see through walls. As for the invisible cloaks then, experts believe these will be available in the shops by 2039. The technology used in the invisibility cloaks, which are currently tested by scientists, tricks the human eye by altering the light waves. Read more here: Invisibility is now one step closer.
The list also includes a replication of a gecko's foot, which scientist will create for gloves and boots, making it possible for people to easily climb walls by sticking to them just like the Spiderman.
The magazine's representatives interviewed scientists to discover that within 30 years the world will observe world's first handheld language-translating device that will instantly convert foreign words that are heard by its user. The invention will resemble the "Babel Fish" in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
It is worth mentioning that New Scientist magazine collected information about the latest inventions in science to mark the 30th anniversary of the first cellular network that was launched in Japan back in 1979.
Experts also included in their list an invention called "handheld healing machine", which can identify and instantly heal internal injuries in a human body.
In 2039 scientists also predict that people will use readily-available jet pack which will help users fly short distances avoiding being stuck in traffic jam.
Experts also predict that humans will use a device able to gather human energy and utilize it to charge cell phones and iPods.
The authors of the article in the scientific magazine mention that in 30 years time the upper mentioned scientific and technological inventions might have a great influence on our life and their impact could be even bigger than mobile phones, the Internet and the iPods.
The full list features the following inventions:
X-Ray vision
Invisibility cloak
Hand-held healing machine

When the Old-fashioned Sewing Machine Meet New Technology

For those of you that born in 1970s or 1980s, you must be very familiar with the old type sewing machine, where your mom always used it to sew some beautiful clothes with it.
google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Most of the sewing machine in that moment was mostly using our feet to step on it and it does require a lot of exercise indeed! If you look on the sewing machine closely, you might find that it’s really a wonderful and magnificent invention that ever created.
What do you think, if you combine the old type sewing machine with the latest technology? Isn’t this sound fabulous to you here?
Yep, what you’re about to learn today is to develop a sound visible sewing machine, where you can put all the high technology stuffs, such as equalizers and sub-titles inside the sound visible. By doing this, you’ll change the sewing sound into an awesome visible sound telegraph instantly!
The visible sound sewing machine will take the sound input and convert it into a sound wave of thread on textile. The sewing machine is synonymous with producing products in industry. Hence, it served as a fitting analogy for the project.

Court gives Pirate Bay ten days to scuttle connection to Netherlands

Poor Pirate Bay, all it ever wanted to do was thumb its nose at the music and movie industries, enable software piracy for people all over the world, play cat-and-mouse games with the Swedish authorities, and maybe make a little money along the way. Now, hot on the heels of a verdict that sees four of its founders headed to prison (that is, if they don't win their appeals) three of the group have been ordered by a court in the Netherlands to block all traffic between the site and its country. If this doesn't happen in the next ten days, each of the defendants faces a charge of €30,000 ($42,000) for each day they don't comply. According to the AP, it's "not clear how the court expected the site's operators to block traffic to the site, or whether it can enforce its order if they decline," but soon it looks like the Dutch just might have to learn to buy their Rave Or Die! Mix Series CDs at the Record Exchange like the rest of us. Good luck going legit, guys!

Radio Shack rebranding to "The Shack"?

Details are a bit light on this one, but thanks to a tipster and some chatter we picked up on the interblogs, it looks like Radio Shack may be about to undergo a pretty noticeable rebranding. The above image was taken from a terminal within a store, and while it's not completely clear if this is a short-term promotional push or long-term strategy (apparently the company will remain Radio Shack on the corporate side), our tipster says that in-store signs will reflect the change this week, and storefront signage will begin to be reworked as "The Shack" sometime later this year. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense -- radios aren't exactly considered cutting edge these days, and from the sounds of things, the store is about to launch a full assault on the mobile space, bringing T-Mobile into the fold this month, and attempting to cover the gamut on cellphone reselling. Still, we're not sure "The Shack" is the right direction... unless they wanted us to immediately picture a remote location where very, very bad things happen.

Nikon Coolpix S1000pj projector-cam beams into reality along with friends

Man, the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj has gone from crazy rumor to seemingly-real to whoa-here's-the-press-release in record time -- the compact cam with the integrated projector was just officially announced, along with the three other cams we saw leaked earlier today. Leaked specs for the S1000pj were dead-on: a 12.1 megapixel sensor with ISO 6400 sensitivity mounted behind a 5x wide-angle zoom lens with five-way VR stabilization, and that LED-powered projector that'll put up a 40-inch image for slideshows complete with music, effects and transitions. We're a little less excited about the $430 list price this thing will carry when it hits in September, but on the whole it's a pretty terrific idea and we're completely intrigued -- looks like we'll be saving our pennies this month. Pictures of everything in the gallery, deets on the other cams and a video of the S1000pj after the break.

Sony's PlayStation 3 Slim to debut August 18th at Cologne gamescom?

Whoa, Nelly! No sooner than we hear that Sony is informing Japanese retailers that the 80GB PS3 model won't be shipping any longer after August 8th, along comes this to stoke the raging rumor fires once more. In a one-two punch that just can't be coincidental, Sony has also hacked $50 off of its 160GB PlayStation 3 bundle from Amazon. But really, it's the report from RTLinfo that has us most excited. According to it, the Sony elite are informing European retailers of an impending €100 price slashing on the 80GB console, which will dovetail nicely into the sudden and not-at-all unexpected debut of the PS3 Slim at the gamescom expo in Cologne, Germany. Reportedly, the willowy unit -- which shouldn't differ much in terms of specifications and features -- will be properly introduced to the world during Sony's pre-event press conference on August 18th. Obviously we've no way to confirm or deny just yet, but given everything else that has transpired over the past few months, we'd say an official reveal is definitely due. What say you, rumormongers?
